With extreme weather conditions, MMU and Sports Excellence Team traveled from West to East Mani and specifically to the historic city of Areopolis, the home of the Mavromichaleans, who retained their independence, during the Ottoman domination.
Mobile Medical Units and medical practices were set up in the Areopoli Health Center. It is worth mentioning that this Health Center works in an exemplary way and is staffed by excellent staff under the guidance of the active, talented and effective Director, Mr. Marioli.
During the three days stay the Mobile Medical Units visited 485 people, 939 appointments were made and a total of 837 exams were conducted. The examinations included: 91 Mammography, 47 Bone Density Measurements, 141 X-rays, 204 Ultrasound, 91 Electrocardiographs and Triplex Heart and 67 PAP Tests.
Together with the operation of the clinics, speeches and actions aimed at informing citizens and preventing diseases were held. The following speeches were held: “Exercise is a Medication,” by the Orthopedic Surgeon, “Healthy Diet & Way of Life” by the Nutritionist and “I decide not to smoke” by the Visiting Health.
Over 80 children aged 6-12 had the opportunity to participate in the Sports Excellence program “Have Fun, Exercise and Decide What You Like” held at the Areopolis indoor gym which is a real gem for the city. Children enjoyed, contacted less-common sports and rated 5 basic skills: speed, jump, strength, flexibility and reaction time. Nutritionists evaluated body composition and performed individual interventions in children, and tested the level of hydration of children by urine sampling. The actions were completed with the ophthalmological screening performed on all children.
